Third Term SY 2007-2008 Rundown

This is a very overdue post. I've wanted to blog about it since last Thursday, but I was already busy packing for our barkada outing to Subic (which I will be telling more of in the next blog post).

The recently concluded term was the toughest for me, both mentally and emotionally. It was challenging and confusing for me in many ways, and it really tested my character as well as showed how I deal with things. If someone would ask me what my overall mood for that term was, I'd probably say I was too pensive about my life, love and about how I see people and how people see me. I was so critical about a lot of things, and oftentimes found myself thinking too much about my problems that I tended to lose focus on what I was supposed to do.

As for the academic stuff, here's a rundown of how I managed to fare in my subjects:

Course: Theory of Programming Languages (CSC617M)
Professor: Dr. Rachel Edita Roxas
Professor's Grade: 3.5 - She has always been generous about the grades she gives, as long as we submit all our deliverables completely and on time.
Self Grade: 2.5 - I didn't even code a single line in our machine project. T_T I mostly contributed in documentation and in the report.
Comments: The subject is mildly interesting, although it's something that I wouldn't have taken this term if I had the choice. There's too much research and work involved. But yes, it is interesting.

Course: Machine Learning (CSC713M)
Professor: Dr. Raymund Sison
Professor's Grade: 2.5 - The ever merciful Dr. Sison has done it again, giving higher grades than what students deserve, although he did mention that he normally gives high grades to Graduate Studies students.
Self Grade: 2.0 - A lot of this goes to the effort I exerted in doing my report and trying to complete my project. I wasn't successful, but I know I did my best.
Comments: This is another interesting subject, though I was (un)lucky enough to pick an algorithm that's difficult to discuss. I would have probably appreciated the subject more if I picked another algorithm.

Course: Christian Social Teachings (RELSFOR)
Professor: Rev. Jose Jereus Bangcaya
Professor's Grade: 3.5 - The grade is actually 0.5 points higher than what was indicated in my course card, probably pulled up by attendance.
Self Grade: 3.5 - I always showed up in class, and I was almost always on time. :) I answered the exercises the best way I know how.
Comments: I've always liked religion class (except for RELSTWO), although this one would have been better if our professor was fairer in grading our exercises and in choosing the type of exercises and exams he would give us.

Course: Project Management for Software Technology (STPRJMA)
Professor: Mr. Ryan Lester Co
Professor's Grade: 3.0 - I did okay in the midterms and finals, and our report and project grades weren't too bad. And he liked my essay on leadership, which was a boost for my final exam grade.
Self Grade: 2.5 - I didn't do so well as a project manager, although I did my best in the other aspects of the subject. (Now I don't know if it's a good or bad thing.)
Comments: This is actually my favorite subject for the term, although I would probably have fared better if I didn't take it at that time. It's very practical, and I learned a lot of things which can be applied in real life. And it's not just the project management aspect which I appreciated. I especially liked Sir Ryan's lectures on leadership and negotiation, which made me reflect about a whole lot of things. Haha.

Course: Thesis in Software Technology 2 (THSST-2)
Adviser: Mr. Allan Bravo Borra
Coordinator: Ms. Nathalie Rose Lim
Given Grade: 4.0 - Everything in the agreement form was accomplished, and it was submitted on time. Basically that's all that was needed to get a good grade.
Self Grade: 2.0 - I did code some aspects of the software, but it's nothing compared to what my thesismates have accomplished.
Comments: I never really liked our thesis topic, and Robert knows about it. So until now, I still treat our thesis as something we have to finish so that it's all over and done with. We still have to do our documentation, though.

I wonder how I'll do next term.

And I wonder if I'll do get to tell him before it ends.
